Stories can be inspired by anything around you. You probably have any number of strange and wonderful objects all over the place at home, at school, or just outside the window. Take a look around and see if anything inspires you to write. Here are a few images to get you going...

You never know where your imagination might take you. I bought the baby twins in the picture below in a dolls-house shop and had them for quite a long time before I discovered that they fitted perfectly inside the shell. Suddenly, the story possibilities began to multiply. Who are they? How did they get there? Who picks up a shell one day and discovers the tiny babies inside? As soon as you start asking questions you are on your way to making a story. After thinking about these two babies, snug in their shell, for a long time I wrote a story called ‘The Sea Child’ - only one baby found her way into the story and she isn’t a baby but a grown girl and she isn’t discovered in a shell either…but this is where the story began, with the shell and the wee blanket-wrapped babies from Kristin Baybar...
